Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island called West Island. A lot of people who aren't aware of the name mistakenly believe that they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. It is actually it is it is the West Island includes everything westward from the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently referenced, however her brief time in the city wasn't. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa. She initially wanted to be an actor, but after a sudden increase in size, her friends could no longer dance with her. In an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. When I outgrew my male companions, I quit. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was an urging from her drama teacher. The teacher recommended that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. Her career spans 20 years and she has appeared in 60 different productions that have screened on large screens as well as smaller screens. The most well-known role she played was as Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the sole Canadian on the Season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
